Dear Parents / Caregivers
This is the last newsletter for Term 1. This has been a long term of 11 weeks and students and staff are deserving of a well earned break, be safe and enjoy the next 2 weeks with your child. We look forward to another 11 week term. Term 1 ends on Friday 15thApril at 3:00pm Term 2 begins on Monday May 2nd at 8:45am
PAY IT FORWARD Our students spent time in the community ‘paying forward’ and asking others to do the same. This included clean-ups at Ocean View speedway and Kowhai Park, helping at Home of Compassion, car wash at Trafalgar Square and planting a school garden. Well done students.
FRIENDS OF RUTHERFORD Very successful selling of tickets for Easter raffle at Trafalger Square with the Young Leaders helping. Drawn this Friday 15th. Next term they will be fund raising with chocolate.
HPV VACCINE The year 8 girls had their first vaccine this week, no ill effects.
HEAD LICE Please check your child’s hair regularly as we have had outbreaks at school.
SCHOOL CANTEEN The operators of the canteen have cancelled their contract. We hope to have another operator in the new term, but please send lunch with your child at least on the first day until you know if it is up and running again. We continue to receive ‘Fruit in Schools’; Monday and Wednesday, and are proud to be a ‘Health Promoting School’.
SCHOOL TELEPHONE This is for emergency only – not forgotten lunch, after school sport etc. Please ensure your child has everything needed for the school day and that after school arrangements are made. Students have their school diary of events with them. We have to pay for every phone call made from school, to land lines and cell phones.
Congratulations to Katie Scorringe - a past pupil who is now Head Girl at Wanganui High School. SPORT Self defense lessons for year 8 girls. Project Aotearoa – designed to teach girls basic physical techniques and reinforce assertion and boundary setting skills. These classes were held this week, enjoyed by all.
Netball and rugby fees are now due, sports beginning next term. Please…. We have so many students wanting to play sport and not enough coaches. If you can help at all with any of the following sports, please make contact with the office – NETBALL – BASKETBALL – FOOTBALL - RUGBY
YMCA Netball after school programme. Starting Wednesday 18th May 2011 – 9 weeks - 4:30-5:30pm.
Junior Academy for girls and boys 8yrs-12yrs, the emphasis will be on fun and active participation with ‘netball specific’ movement and passing skills. Cost - $80 Ph Lisa at 34 92329
YMCA HOLIDAY PROGRAMME Various activities and camps for boys and girls aged 5 – 14yrs. Some subsidies available. Programmes available at the office at school or Ph YMCA at 3490197
SCHOOL FEES We appreciate your donations. This terms fees are due - $20.
WINTER UNIFORM Uniform track pants may be worn for the next two terms. We have most sizes available now. Full stocks of jerseys, polar fleeces and long sleeved polo shirts available.
