WHOOPING COUGH

There are known cases of this contagious disease in the community at the moment. It starts with a runny nose and then a cough that can build up to violent bouts of coughing lasting for weeks. It is infectious for 3 weeks after the cough starts and can be especially severe in babies under a year old.

Please check that your child has had their booster shot at 4 years of age and again at year 7.

Our year 7 students have just had their booster vaccine, any that were absent for this must have theirs at their GP.

Newsletter July 2011

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Whanau

Well we have reached the end of another 11 week term!!  All students and teachers fully deserve a well-earned break!!

Firstly I would like to thank Mr Keith Webb who has been teaching in Room 7.  Mr Webb has done a fantastic job and we wish him well with his future endeavours.   Room 7 parents will be advised of term 3 arrangements on Friday.

We welcome back in term 3 Ms Diana Ghinda who has been in France on an Immersion Award.

Term 3 is going to be a very busy term with the annual Arts Festival.  We have Dance, Pasifika, Music, Wearable Art, Kapahaka and Drama happening at the moment and I’m very excited to see the finished performance, to be held at the end of term 3.    If you have some spare time to help behind the scenes in preparation for the show, please come and have a chat with me.

FOLLOWING THE CORRECT PROCESS

I would like to remind you of the process you need to follow when advising the school of bullying.  Your first contact must be made with the Principal.   Please do not approach the members of the Board to address your concerns.  Remember, our Board Members are parents too, and are often at school to collect their child.  It is the Boards responsibility to govern our school.  The Principal manages it.   Your concern is very important to me.  I will make time to talk with you.   Should you wish to make contact with the Members of the Board, please do so in writing.

CANTEEN.

Please do not forget that the canteen will be closed for the first week of Term 3. Our wonderful Canteen Lady, Queralt is returning to her homeland of Spain for a holiday and we look forward to her return, week 2 of Term 3!!

SCHOOL FEES

These are greatly appreciated as they go towards resources, sports and the technology department.  Fees are only $25.00 per term.  Automatic payments can also be arranged.  Thank you to those who have paid, or are paying term by term.

  • Ashlee Harrison.  Ashlee won gold at the Wanganui Rock ‘n’ Roll Club in the Junior Division.  Well done Ashlee.

It’s wonderful hearing of student’s success.   Don’t hesitate to inform me of your child’s success.

ROC CENTRE

Have we forgotten? Are our students getting their homework done at home?  That’s great!  If you would like your child to attend the ROC centre after school, please do not hesitate to make contact.  A teacher will always be in the library to assist with any help the students need.  Queralt is providing a delicious afternoon tea for the students.  This is free of charge and a great way keeping up with homework!

FACEBOOK!!

I would like to bring to your attention the cyber bullying that is taking place online.  I have had a number of parents come in to school, concerned about their child being bullied on Facebook.   Please remember a child must be the age of 13 to have their own profile.  Please keep an eye on your child when on facebook!  Their safety is a major concern

CELL PHONES

Once again there is text bullying taking place outside of school with some of our students.   The problem we have is, the disputes are then coming to school.  Enough is Enough!!  Can I suggest if your child is going to be a text bully, you as the parent take the phone away until they can prove to be responsible young adult!  We will do our very best to rectify the problem however do not hesitate in getting the Police involved!

BUS SERVICE

This is going great.  Mr Berryman is enjoying the morning and afternoon drive.  Please remember to let him know if you don’t need the service.  Also any contributions to the cost of the diesel would be appreciated.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

I am constantly reminding students about Shoes!!  If your child is not wearing the correct shoes, contact will be made with the Parents.  A plain black leather lace up is all that is required.   Please no skate shoes, dolly shoes, slip-ons, sneakers etc.  All parents have signed the enrolment card where it states the school uniform will be worn in its prescribed form.  Thank you for your support.

SCHOOL REPORTS

Please keep these in a safe place!!!  They are required for enrolling at secondary school.  All students received a written report in term 1 at the Student Led Conferences.  The next full written report will be at the beginning of Term 4.

TIME FOR A CLEAN OUT?

Your rubbish could be our Treasure!!  Do you have any fabrics, containers, cottons, paper, house paints, wall tiles, timber, china, broken plates, jewellery, test pots etc.   Please bring it in.  Thanking you in advance.

A little something to read!

A promise to my kids. “I'm not your friend. I'm your parent. I will stalk you, flip out on you, lecture you, embarrass you, drive you insane, be your worst nightmare & hunt you down like a bloodhound when needed, because I LOVE YOU!!   When you understand that, I'll know you are a responsible adult. You will NEVER find someone who loves, prays, cares & worries about you more than I do”.  anon

Enjoy the holidays.  I look forward to a very exciting term ahead of us.

Stay Safe

Dear Parents / Caregivers

Welcome to Term Two!!

Another 11 week term ahead of us with plenty to keep the students busy.

We farewelled Mrs Kendrick at the end of Term 1 – Mrs Kendrick has taken 3 terms leave to explore new avenues and we welcome back Mrs Georgie Pullins.

CANTEEN

As advised in our recent newsletter at the end of Term 1, we have not yet been able to find a replacement for our school canteen.

However, it was absolutely fabulous to see all students (with the exception of 2) with cut lunches. What a fantastic sight seeing healthy lunches and I commend you as Parents and Caregivers.

I would prefer to close the canteen (much to the student’s disgust!) and continue with cut lunches. However, our Young Leaders may be able to take it on and offer a snack canteen at recess.  If you have any suggestions or recommendations as to who can continue with our Canteen, I would very much like to hear from you.

WINTER UNIFORM

The weather is certainly cooling down and students are now able to wear the track pants to, from and during school. Excellent for Saturday Sport.

Long sleeve thermals can be worn under the polo shirt as long as they are not seen.   It is also essential students have a raincoat in their school bags. It always seems to rain at 3pm!

FUNDRAISER - WESTPAC RESCUE HELICOPTER IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE NEW ZEALAND RUGBY UNION!

The Rugby World Cup is rapidly approaching!! To celebrate this event the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Trust and the New Zealand Rugby Union have organised a competition for all primary schools to participate. The school that raises the most money will win a visit from Richie McCaw (All Black Captain) in the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. We registered our interest to participate and because we were one of the first schools in our region to register we will have Christian Cullen visiting on Thursday 5th May to speak with the students!!  How cool is that???   Our Young Leaders will organise the fundraising activities. A flyer will follow.

STUDENT LED CONFERENCES SURVEY

Did you fill this out for me? Thank you to those who did. I would REALLY appreciate your comments. I attach the survey again at the end of this newsletter for your response. Thanking you in advance.

WINTER SPORTS CODES.

Please ensure your fees are paid prior to the games starting. Remember if your child is in a team, it is vital that they attend every practise and game. I will be visiting our teams on Saturday mornings and look forward to seeing some great play! A huge thank you to those parents who make the time to coach and assist. Your dedication to our students is much appreciated.
